Our Last Home

How many homes have you lived in? I counted up the other day and since birth I have lived in 25 homes. And I'm not a military child. Let's see some of my friends top that. Of course, there will be someone out there who is still living in the house they were born in. When you moved in a new home was it thrilling or sad? No doubt you longed for the new house to seem like a home.

Personally, I hope to move one more time. That will be when I go to the home Jesus is preparing for me. Jesus promised, "I go to prepare a place for you..." (John 14:2-3) In other words, our real home is heaven.

There is much that is wonderful in the life here on earth . There is the beauty of what God created, the blessings God has given us and the beautiful people we have been blessed to know. But in spite of it we get to feeling restless and even think we would like to move to a new home. The Hebrew writer may have understood it, "Here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." (Heb. 13:14) And that new home is the best ever with "no more death, or mourning or crying or pain." (Rev. 21:4) I'm ready to move. How about you?
