Jesus Paid The Price

On a dark winter night in 1935 Fiorello La Guardia, mayor of New York, took over for a night court judge. An old woman was brought before him charged with stealing a loaf of bread. Her only defense was that her grandchildren were starving.

The storekeeper refused to drop the charges. La Guardia said, "Ten dollars or ten days in jail." While pronouncing sentence the mayor reached in his pocket and payed the fine of ten dollars. Then he said, "I'm going to fine everyone in the courtroom 50 cents for living in a town where a person has to steal bread so her grandchildren can eat. Forty-seven dollars was collected and given to the grandmother.

Jesus Christ did something similar for us. We are all sinners and the law allows no exceptions. We must be punished for our sins. Jesus paid the price however. He was, "pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, the Lord caused the iniquity of us to fall on Him...He himself bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressors." (Isa. 53: 5-6, 12)

He gave himself for you, will you not return the favor and give yourself into His service? Why not become a disciple of Christ today?
