Spiritual Warmth

On May 1, 1990 our first grandson, Taylor was born prematurely and fighting for his life. He remained in the ICU for over a month being unable to get off 100% oxygen. A new treatment of steroids was tried and it helped him to cause his lungs to begin to develop. After he left the hospital another treatment was being discussed. Mothers were asked to hold their preemies under their shirt for a period of time so the baby could have skin-to-skin contact.

The results were encouraging. The babies heart rates and breathing stabilized. Their weight increased and they cried less. Although I don't remember Karise doing that but Terry did. I would often see tiny Taylor laying on his father's broad chest sleeping away. I often wondered if that contributed to Taylor's eventual recovery.

Our spiritual growth is dependent on love. We all need to feel the warmth of other human beings who care about our existence. "I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power...to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ...that you may be filled to the measure of all the fulness of God." (Eph. 3:17-19)
