Building a Family Mission Statement

The following newsletter has been created to provide resources from the Marriage Ministry at Collegeside. We pray that you use this time to lean in to your marriage and let God move you to a closer connection with each other.

Building A Family Mission Statement
If we take the “glass half full” approach to this unique situation we are in right now, we might find the blessing of time. This isn’t to downplay or ignore the seriousness of the event at hand but to shift our perspective slightly in order to see this as a chance to be more purposeful about our home life. We want to share resources with you that will help you to be intentional in your marriages as well as your families over the next several weeks. Some of these resources will be activities like the in home date night we sent out. Others will be reading plans, videos, and films. Each has been carefully curated in order to bless your time at home together.

The first resource we want to share is Andy Andrews, “Family Mission Statement Builder.” These worksheets were created to help families answer the all important questions of:
  • What is important to us?
  • Where do we want to go?
  • What does “the best” look like for us?
  • How do we want to act?
  • What is the legacy we want to leave behind?

Building a family mission statement takes time and thought but it will distinguish you from the majority and inspire you to be the best version of yourselves you can be. When times get tough and decisions need to be made, having a family mission statement will help you focus on your values. You do not have to have children in your home to have a family mission statement. This can easily be translated into a “marriage mission statement.” We are praying for your marriages and your families.
