Wisdom Toward Others

When I go to the grocery store I go to the fruit section to look for my favorite Honeycrisp apples. Most times the apples have been shined with a cloth and look ever so good. But invariably the fruit manager fails to do his job and the apples look dull and old and I pass them up in favor of visiting another store for my fruit purchase. It is clear enough: the fruit has to be made attractive to the potential customer.

The same is true in our evangelism toward the unbelievers. The gospel has to be made attractive to them. Paul wrote, "Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders..." (Col. 4:5) The NIV puts it "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders..." . Kindness, love and compassion toward outsiders will do more to attract people to the gospel than anything I know. Living it is better than talking it anytime. Compassion in people's pain practiced in kind words and deeds shows how real is the love of Jesus.
