Worry, Worry, Worry!

Do you spend a lot of your life worrying over this or that? Surely you are aware that we too often worry over things that never happen. While fully employed we worry that we might lose our job. While completely healthy we worry that we may have heart failure or get cancer. While our children have obeyed the gospel and are living for Jesus we worry that they might drift away from Jesus. Why is it we don’t thank God for what is instead of worrying about what might be?

I used to lead the following hymn because of its message, “I care not today what the morrow may bring, If shadow or sunshine or rain, The Lord I know ruleth o’er everything, And all of my worry is vain. —— Our Lord will return to this earth some sweet day, Our troubles will then all be o’er, The Master so gently will lead us away, Beyond that blest heavenly shore. Chorus: Living by faith, in Jesus above, Trusting, confiding in His great love; From all harm safe in His sheltering arm, I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.”   That beats worrying any old day!
