Read Matthew 10:26-33.
The apostles have spent at least a year, maybe two, traveling with Jesus up to this point in the book of Matthew. They have watched him heal the sick, cast demons out, and raise the dead. They have also heard him speak many truths and correct many misinterpretations of the Law. Now, Jesus wants them to proclaim these things “in the light” and “on the housetops.” And although their lives may be in danger as they share this message, Jesus encourages them to have no fear.
They are encountering people that can only harm flesh, what is seen. While this still doesn’t sound great, Jesus reminds the apostles that these people cannot harm the soul. Only God has authority over our souls, and he values those that choose to follow Him. Jesus compares those that carry his message to swallows, saying that if God would never let a swallow fall to the ground, how much more will he take care of us! In the same way, we have nothing to fear while on this earth. The only one worth fearing is God, and if you follow Him, He’s on your side!
Finally, this passage ends with two very distinct options: acknowledge Jesus before men or deny him. As we know, Jesus doesn’t leave much room for gray areas. He says that our decision will determine whether he acknowledges or denies us before God. This is crucial because, again, God has authority over the soul. Don’t you want Him to guard and protect it for eternity? I know that I do. Let us strive together to acknowledge Jesus daily as our Savior!
Questions:
*Take a moment to journal these questions. Write down your thoughts, questions, and concerns. Then date your entry. One of the coolest things is being able to look back and see how God came through for you.*
Prayer: Spend some time praying about the things you journaled. Ask Christ to increase your boldness. Thank Him for His provision– that He values and cares for you. Pray for the confidence to march forward in the fight, knowing He goes before you and stands behind you.

- What does it look like in your life to be bold for Christ? What places have you been timid to share your faith?
- Read verses 29-31. You are valuable in God’s eyes. He knows your fears and says to charge forward in the fight anyway. He will care for you. How does this give you assurance to keep moving forward? What does it mean to you to know you’re valued by God?
