We Are Weak, But He Is Strong

Karl Barth was considered one of the great Christian thinkers of the 20th century. He was once asked by a student what was the most profound thought he had ever considered. He responded, “Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so...” I agree. These words are beyond my grasp to appreciate. But the rest of the song amazes me as well, “Little ones to Him belong; they are weak, but He is strong...”

I can’t speak for you but it seems to me that every day of my life has been a spiritual battle. Satan never quits attacking. I feel like I am no match for the challenges that Satan presses on me daily. From time to time  I feel as if I am  making a little progress against our enemy, the Evil One. But then he sends something like a lost job, a sickness, or a death of a loved one or a great storm of virus.

It does one good to learn to believe the rest of that song, “We are weak but He is strong”. The Scripture says, “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength.” (Isa. 40:29) I am convinced that God allows Satan to place us in situations beyond our ability to handle. He allows us to experience something greater than our feeble capabilities. And when that happens we get the opportunity to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Eph. 6:10)
