Special Delivery

In the early 1900's it was a real challenge to be a mailman. My uncle E. L. Monroe delivered the mail in the hills of Clay Co., Tn. For many years he rode a horse to deliver mail. He once told of tying heavy looped strings to the wheels of his car. Dogs trying to bite his tires would get their teeth hung in the loops and go rolling down the highway. It did not take long to break them from chasing his car.

In 1902 Congress authorized a standard size mail box so people would not have to meet the mailman to get their mail. Later on, one mail patron erected a mail box on a 10 ft. pole and labeled it airmail.

Many people then and now wait anxiously to get their mail. I wonder if we are as eager to read the most important mail we can receive, the gospel of Jesus Christ, God's Word. John 20:30-31- "And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that believing you may have life in his name."

Now folks, that is special delivery! Why not accept it?
