The Matter of Distance

In 1986 Janice  and I were privileged to go on a free cruise through the Caribbean. It was the first time for either us to be on the ocean. Unfortunately, I got motion sickness before we got out of the harbor. There was something about the ocean that my eyes and brain could not cope with. I was offered a medical patch and the rest of the trip was pleasant.
One thing that impressed me was the great distance involved. Anywhere as far as the eye could see was nothing but water. It is easy to understand how someone in a smaller boat could get disoriented and lost especially if there was no sun shining eliminating east-west clues. Similarly, the scientists discuss the distant stars in terms of light-years which is hard to wrap our minds around.
But these distances seem small compared to the distance in God's dealing with our sins. Ps. 103:11-12 says, "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. " His forgiveness is unending!
