Weekly Checkup

Steve Garrett made a wonderful analogy recently as he presided at the table of the Lord. He spoke of going every year to his doctor for his annual "checkup." He spoke of the importance of doing so. That reminded me that it was at one of my "checkups" that the doctor determined that I had chronic leukemia. Steve then made the application by quoting I Cor. 11:28, "That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup."

He was suggesting along with Paul that the table of the Lord should be our weekly checkup.  I'm afraid for too many of us nothing could be further from the truth. We watch the servers, the babies and the people who decide to go to the bathroom. Or we think about where we are going to eat lunch or whether the Titans will win their game today.

What did Paul say to do? "...examine yourselves"!  Close your eyes and look into your heart. Think about how you've lived your life this week with your family, your neighbors, and your co-workers. Be honest!Have you spent time with the Lord putting him first! If not repent then " eat the bread and drink the cup!"
