The Light Of Salvation

Many years ago Janice and I visited Mammoth Cave. If you've never been there you need to go. It was an amazing place, until the Park Ranger turned the lights out. Talk about the darkest of dark! It would have been easy to panic if you were not pretty sure the Ranger would turn them on again. I'm glad there wasn't a storm outside that would have knocked the power off unexpectedly. Janice and I did hold hands while the lights were off.

The Ranger did something I have never forgotten. We could not see our hand in front of our face. And in the widest part of the cave in pitch black he lit a match. It was amazing how much light that match gave off.

We live in a world made spiritually dark by sin and we need the Light. Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world..." (John 8:12)  And again, "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness." (John 12:46)  In Him, we not only have the light of salvation but the only light by which we can find our way through this world's spiritual darkness.
