Such Were Some Of You
I Cor. 6: 9-10 states, "Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes or practice homosexuality, or are thieves or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive or cheat people---none of these will inherit the kingdom of God." (NLT) That is plain and definite language!
I wonder what would happen if the preacher were to read this passage one morning and ask all who have been guilty of one or more of these sins to please stand up. I wonder how many people would be honest or brave enough to stand up? But we could hardly deny our guilt. Did not Paul say only one verse later, "Such were some of you..." (v.11) Indeed, we can all find ourselves in Paul's sin list, if we are willing to admit it.
If we are guilty we don't have to be distressed for, "Such were some of you,... but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God." (v. 12)
