Seeing A Sermon

On one occasion a preacher holding a tent revival was constantly heckled by an agnostic, i.e., one who says that it is impossible to know anything for sure about God. The man continued to challenge the preacher to a public debate. Finally, the preacher agreed on one condition. He said, “I will debate with you if you will bring with you one person whose life has been changed for the better by what you believe and I’ll bring a hundred men whose lives have been changed by what I believe.” Needless to say the debate never took place.

Yes, a changed life is perhaps the greatest evidence for Christianity. If you claim to be a Christian what kind of fruit does your life display? Can people see by the quality of your life that Christ lives in you? Do you cheat, lie, use filthy language or speak contemptuously of holy things? Let’s face it friends, the hypocritical behavior of some professed Christians is one reason there is so much doubt and skepticism about Christianity today. It is quite sobering to realize that our actions can either lead men closer to Christ, or else turn them away from Him altogether. Too many professed Christians are what I called “practical atheists”. If that insults you then deny it by the tenor of your life. The old saying is true, “I would rather see a sermon than hear one any day, I would rather it would walk beside me, than merely point the way”.
