Kidside Children's Lesson

Daniel and the Lion’s Den
When Daniel was a teenager he and many of his friends were kidnapped and taken to a foreign country. Jerusalem, his hometown, was destroyed and occupied by the Babylonians. Daniel was trained in the culture of the Babylonians and put into a position of leadership in the nation of his kidnappers. But the most important thing about Daniel is that he never lost faith in God.

Watch the Children’s Lesson on YouTube.

Read Daniel 6:1-9 1.

1. List several reasons why you think Daniel had so much success as a leader in Babylon.
2. Why do you think Daniel was disliked by his peers? Have you ever judged others because          of their success? Have you felt judged by others when you believed you had not wronged             them?

Read Daniel 6:10-18

3. Daniel had a habit that helped him stay close to God? What habits do you have that help           remind you of God’s constant presence in your life? Are there any new habits you would               like to start individually or as a family as we begin a new school year?
4. It is strange to us that the king could not change his mind. How badly did the king feel               about his mistake? Have you ever said anything that you wished you could take back,                     especially to a friend or family member? Do you ever have a hard time forgiving others for           things they say about you?

Read Daniel 6:19-28

5. God was with Daniel in the Lion’s den, in a foreign land where Daniel was take as a                    hostage. What does that tell you about God’s presence with us today?

Challenge: How can we live out our faith this week in such a way that others praise God because they see God’s power, love and grace in us?
