The Riches of God

The lust for man made riches destroys our very souls. People will do almost anything if they think there sufficient riches coming their way. I read somewhere that there are six billion dollars of buried treasure in the depths of our oceans across the globe. The same source says that a gold mine in South Africa employs nearly 17,000 people working 24 hours per day to gather the gold from the earth. The mine is expected to produce 1 million ounces a year for the next 20 years. Like most folks I enjoy the things riches will buy for me. But I don’t love it enough to allow it to consume my every waking moment. I have discovered riches that are greater than what too many pursue.

There are riches that are limitless and inexhaustible! It won’t be like the California Gold Rush that brought thousands upon thousands across a continent seeking instant riches. But alas, the gold strike soon played out and people had nothing. The limitless riches I speak of are the riches of God. Paul wrote, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us...” (Eph. 1:7-8) God doesn’t  experience economic collapse. He promises that He will “supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19) Do we not need to evaluate the riches we are presently pursuing?
